by the way, Dale and David,

are either of you considering graduate school?

I love how the last panel has no punctuation. Gold!

I am considering graduate school in my darkest hours,

But I promised myself one novel first, at least, before I laze in the glades of academe

Was the period in the last panel just added? I think it worked better without it.

Yes, I added the period after several people praised its absence.

Someone explain to me why it's funnier the other way. It looks careless to me. If the text were hand-written and thereby showed more variation, it would be easier for me to imagine.

A sentence without a period sounds less legit,

to me, the effect was that the parents were yelling after him

and he was not listening, or gone.

The period you added makes the parents' voice louder,

so the boy had to go back and retrieve his sandwich.

It changes the whole ending.

I liked that it detached the last panel. This might not have been the effect that you shot for, but the lack of a period makes people read it in a different tone. It's similar to the effect in Alicia, where the last panel is detatched by a "So, anyway".

Really, the period doesn't feel right for me since it had no period before. That, and I initially read this episode as more "wacky" since I thought of it as a commercial for a Grad school that gets jolted back into reality when it would normally cut to a montage of the school.

I am unilaterally against absense of punctuation in type. Careless, wicked things.
